The Men’s Project is an eleven-week training that begins in February. The day and time to be determined by participant availability.

 

The program is supported by the UConn Women’s Center and the Asian American Cultural Center, whose staff serve as advisors and support for this initiative.  The goal of the Men’s Project is to train men who will then positively influence their peers by challenging social norms that promote gender-based violence; understanding their connection to survivors of gender-based violence; and role modeling effective bystander interventions. The weekly meetings will focus on topics related to gender socialization, masculinities, social justice and gender-based violence.

We will select approximately 15- 20 students for this initiative. The purpose of the project is to identify and train individuals who may be seen as having influence with their peers. However, all students are encouraged to apply. We are looking for a diverse group of participants with unique experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds.  For more information, please contact mensproject@uconn.edu

Join us to recognize the Women’s Center’s 35 year herstory on campus of prevention education related to gender-based violence.  Were you a peer educator in VAWPP?  Or before that the Rape Education Program?  Are you an alum of the Men’s Project and/or Greeks Against Sexual Assault?  Did you work or volunteer at the Women’s Center?  This reunion is a chance to connect with others who are part of the legacy of addressing violence against women in our community.  Lunch will be served.  RSVP is required.

Unfolding the Story: A Journey of Her Own is a new international project in which a diverse group of artist come together to create an original puppet theatre production delving into the themes of women’s wisdom and empowerment.  The idea for this project was born out of the quote, “We don’t receive wisdom; we must discover it for ourselves after a journey that no one can take for us or spare us.” (Marcel Proust).  This production aims to engage in contemporary feminist issues.

Nationally acclaimed, DEFAMATION is a riveting courtroom drama that explores the highly charged issue of race, religion, gender, class and the law with a twist:  our audience is the jury.

Friday, November 13, 2015 at 7:30pm in the Student Union Theater.

Participants will participate in a conversation/dialogue around “What would you DO” in a variety of circumstances that involve racial profiling, racism, stealing from the poor, body shaming and lgbt bullying.

Monday, November 9 – Wednesday, November 11, 2015 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm in Oak Hall 109.

Presented by GTC Dramatic Dialogues, Strange Like Me begins with a monologue that lays bare the ugliness of hate, setting the stage for a lively discussion of diversity. The program follows students as they attempt to navigate the sometimes difficult terrain of multicultural campus relationships. During “talk-backs,” students can confront the characters and voice their own opinions on issues of racism, sexism, and homophobia. Strange Like Me is a program that gets college students talking about diversity.
